F-F H.S. Highlights: Fannett-Metal edges Southern Fulton

With the playoffs beginning Saturday, Fannett-Metal's boys soccer team is riding a serious wave.

On Monday night, the Tigers closed out the regular season with a 5-4 victory over Southern Fulton in Sideling Hill League action, putting their win streak at seven games.

Southern Fulton (8-9, 6-6 SHL) put up the best fight it could muster, scoring pair of goals in the final 10 minutes, but it was just too little, too late.

All five of the goals for Fannett-Metal (12-6, 7-5 SHL) were scored by different players. Brandon Winegardner and Dylan Seibert each scored a goal and an assist, while Frankie Ryder, Wyatt Thorne and Mikell McGee were each credited with a tally.

Chase Varner led the way with Southern Fulton, scoring a trio of goals, and Benjy Voight had the fourth.

Colby Adams racked up 10 saves for F-M.

Golf

Gardenhour shoots 89: Waynesboro senior Olivia Gardenhour competed in her first PIAA Golf Championship round at Heritage Hills in York on Monday and, unfortunately, did not have her best round on the tricky course.

Gardenhour shot 89 and is in 17th place out of 18 golfers after the first day. Round two will be held Tuesday.

Gardenhour’s downfall began on the par-5 No. 11 when she scored a triple bogey 8. Later in the round, she tripled the par 4 No. 1 with a 7. She had a 46 on the front nine and followed with a 43.

Samantha Yao of Conestoga and Mia Kness of Peters Township shared the first-round lead by shooting even-par 72s.

Girls soccer

McConnellsburg 1, North Star 0: Midway through the first half, Jensen Boehme scored a goal, and McConnellsburg made it stand up in a non-league matchup with North Star.

The win should play in the Lady Spartans' favor in the hunt for a district playoff spot.

Izzy Keefer was credited with the assist, and Kellyn Perry finished with 10 saves for the sixth shutout of the year for McConnellsburg (10-6-1).
