F-F H.S. Highlights: Friday, Oct. 7

It's been a pretty remarkable week for the Chambersburg field hockey team.

Wednesday, the Trojans edged Central Dauphin 1-0 on a goal by Lize Ernst and a nine-save shutout by goalie Ari Burke.

Friday, Chambersburg decided it liked that formula and posted a 1-0 victory over Cumberland Valley. Burke made four saves and Ernst again collected the game-winning goal.

"It turned out to be a great week," Trojan coach Jen Ansley said. "We hadn't beaten CD for seven years, and it's probably been just as long with CV."

For the Trojans (7-6, 4-6 MPC), Ernst scored her goal with 2:01 left in the first half, using a slick reverse stick shot. It was her ninth of the season.

Amsley said, "It was pretty much a defensive game. We had only two shots and that was the first one.

"The whole team played great defense. Ari was excellent at goalie, Kaylea (Garman) and Liza and Madison (Schmus) played real good defense, and Rachel Dusman generated a lot of attacks. And we had Courtney Kirby mark the girl who scored four goals against us last time (Maddie Brown-Scherer) and she did an excellent job."

The Trojans have also put themselves back into possible contention for a playoff berth. Chambersburg is now No. 14 and the top 10 get in.
