P.O. Softball All-Stars

FIRST TEAM

LEAH HUNT, Chambersburg, sr., P/3B
Hunt, the 2016 P.O. Softball Player of the Year, continued her stellar career as one of the area's most effective pitchers, and a huge threat at the plate. She hit a staggering .514 and led the team with 24 RBIs. She also racked up 65 strikeouts through 41 innings pitched and had a 1.35 ERA. “She is amazing,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “She’s a coach's dream and does everything you ask of her. She could have thrown 200 innings for us and wouldn’t complain. I think she’s the best player in the district, and one of the best in the state.” Hunt was named to the Mid Penn Commonwealth Division first team.

JENNA MONGOLD, James Buchanan, so., P/INF
Mongold tacked on a few more wins to her early triumph, leading James Buchanan to a highly successful season. As just a sophomore, Mongold fanned an impressive 88 batters and had an impressive 1.58 ERA as the Rocket's ace. She also hit .362 with 23 RBIs for James Buchanan. “Jenna is a solid player, and she does a lot of things well,” James Buchanan coach Troy Pittman said. “We didn’t know what this year would bring with so many new players, but she could always could be counted on. She is a gamer.” Mongold was named to the Mid Penn Colonial Division first team.

LAKEN MYERS, Chambersburg, sr., P/1B
Myers had been a constant threat in the circle for Chambersburg throughout her high school career - but toward the end of the 2017 campaign, Myers also hit her stride in the batters box. She had eight wins on the season, a 1.65 ERA and 35 strikeouts. She also hit .267 with 14 RBIs. “Laken is incredible,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “She stepped up throughout the playoffs and got her bat going, and never let down. She was our go-to girl in the playoffs. She wanted the ball and wanted that pressure. She really stepped up and was one of our leaders.” Myers was named to the Mid Penn Commonwealth Division second team.

ALLY BROWN, Greencastle-Antrim, sr., OF/P
Brown continued her stellar high school softball career with successful senior campaign, in which she dominated at the bat and in the circle. Brown racked up 32 strikeouts all the while leading the Blue Devils with a 2.64 ERA. She also hit .455 and had 13 RBIs. “Nothing surprises me with Ally Brown,” Greencastle coach Mark DeCarli said. “She had a great year at the plate and pitching and she’s really going to be missed. She always came up with the clutch hit, it’s always Ally doing her job when she needs to.” Brown was a Mid Penn Colonial Division first teamer.

MORGAN RITCHEY, Fannett-Metal, so., SS
In her sophomore season Ritchey was a tremendous asset to Fannett-Metal’s success. Batting .543, Ritchey broke the school’s softball batting average record, and had a record-setting 12 doubles. She also had a .900 fielding percentage at shortstop. “Morgan matured throughout this year and became more of a leader,” Fannett-Metal coach Michael DeAngelo said. “And at short, her range is top-notch, she’s able to get balls that other shortstops could not get and she’s great at getting runners out.” Ritchey earned a place on the Inter-County Conference South All-Star squad for the infield.

JENNA POWELL, Waynesboro, jr., 3B
Powell led the Maidens at the plate, batting .515 and racking up 27 RBIs off 40 hits - including five home runs. In the process, she improved her batting average from her sophomore season by nearly 120 points. “All season long she’s been the player who got the big, timely hit,” Maidens coach Aaron Burke said. “She hits with a lot of power and she can hit against the best teams. She’s a tough out and has really improved to be able to hit any field better than anyone around. We’re really excited to have her back next year.” Powell was a Mid Penn Colonial Division second-team recipient.

TAYLOR MYERS, Chambersburg, fr., OF
Myers is one player to keep your eye on as she builds off of a successful freshman year. Myers batted .453 with 14 RBIs, and used her speed on the base paths to get herself into scoring position. Myers stole 14 bases and had just one error on the season. “The rookie came in and did what she was supposed to do,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “She came in and earned her spot, and she responded well. Her speed makes her a threat, no question. She changes the game with her speed, if she’s on base, she’s taking off.” Myers earned a first-team nod in the Mid Penn Commonwealth Division.

EMILY WENNER, Shippensburg, so., P/OF
Shippensburg’s Emily Wenner may have been the Lady Hounds’ No. 2 pitcher - but she threw like an ace. Wenner had a 2.42 ERA, earned a 6-2 record for Shippensburg. She fanned 27 batters and also hit .424 with 13 RBIs. “We have a lot of confidence in Emily. She won some big games this year early in the season and in the playoffs,” Shippensburg coach Mike Peters said. “She's very coachable and is determined to improve her already solid skills in the circle. At the plate, Emily always gives a quality at bat and hits the ball hard.” Wenner was a first-team Mid Penn Colonial Division recipient.

BROOKE HARRIS, Fannett-Metal, sr., P
Harris pitched nearly every inning of Fannett-Metal’s successful 2017 campaign, breaking the school record for innings pitched and for wins in a season with 16. She finished with a 2.25 ERA and threw more than 146 innings. “She’s been our workhorse the last two seasons,” Fannett-Metal coach Michael DeAngelo said. “It was great to see her hard work in the offseason finally pay off her senior year. Even going back to her freshman year I’ve seen how much she’s been able to improve thanks to playing travel ball and work with pitching coaches.” Harris earned an Inter-County Conference South all-star nod.

MACKENZIE OBERHOLZER Greencastle-Antrim, sr., 3B/C
Oberholzer was a consistent threat at the plate, and behind it as the team’s starting catcher. She hit .444 and brought in 19 runs. She also had 102 putouts, 11 assists, and caught three runners stealing. “Mac stepped up this year as one of our captains and she was one of our leaders,” Greencastle coach Mark DeCarli said. “She did a very good job keeping runners at first and throwing runners out stealing. In our lineup she made a big jump from her junior to senior year.” Oberholzer was named to the Mid Penn Colonial division first team.
