SOFTBALL: Forbes Road beats Southern Fulton to notch 1st winning season in program history

WARFORDSBURG >> Forbes Road's softball team really wanted this one.

With a win on Friday against Southern Fulton, the Cardinals could clinched their first winning record in program history. Mission accomplished.

Forbes Road jumped out to an early lead, and Tina Parsons and Haley Lashinsky combined for a five-hitter to give the Cardinals a 9-2 Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference victory. Forbes Road (10-8, 9-7 SHL, 9-5 ICC) finishes as the No. 6 seed in District 5 Class A and will play at Hyndman – No. 3 – on Wednesday at 4:30.

"Today was a great win," FR coach Beth Bryant said. "We fought through some adversity this season, so to be able to finish with a high like this is great."

Forbes Road jumped out to a quick start with five runs in the first three innings. The Indians, who finish the season with a 7-12 (5-11 SHL, 5-9 ICC) record, didn't get on the board until they scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"Allison Spade did a great job stepping up and pitching for us," SF coach Stacy Smith said, "and Erica Hoffman had a great game defensively at third. We had a lot of injuries this season, and we never really had a set lineup throughout the season. But the girls kept adjusting, and I'm proud of them."

Maiah Mellott finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cardinals, and Hannah Purnell was 2-for-2 with an RBI. On the mound, Parsons gave up no runs on four hits in four innings, and Lashinsky didn't give up any hits but did surrender two unearned runs.

For Southern Fulton, Lakyn Morton finished with two hits.
