SOFTBALL: Chambersburg cruises over Carlisle, 9-0, for 6th straight victory

CARLISLE >> After a loss to open the Big Spring Tournament, the Chambersburg softball team has been on a mission.

The Trojans overpowered Carlisle 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division game to run their win streak to six games and raise their record to 12-7.

"We told the girls after that loss that we had to string together some wins to help ourselves for the district playoffs," Chambersburg co-coach Ted Bittinger said. "And they've done that."

Herd pitcher Hannah Seburn kept a lid on the Trojans for the first three innings, allowing no baserunners. But Caeley Etter led off the fourth with a ringing triple and Chelsea Sommerville singled her home. Lily Nolan singled, and Alyia Kauffman and Sam Bender contributed RBI singles in the four-run inning.

Chambersburg put up a five-spot in the sixth to sew things up.

"We settled down after that fourth inning," Bittinger said.

Bender pitched the first four innings for the Trojans and allowed no runs and four hits. Leah Hunt pitched to just one batter over the minimum in the last three innings. Hunt struck out six and Bender one.

Bittinger said, "Bender had a decent start, then we brought Hunt in and she shut them down. Ciara Glunt and Chelsea Sommerville both made nice plays up the middle on grounders to get a force at second. We've been playing decent defense lately."

Nolan was 3-for-4 and Sommerville 2-for-3 for Chambersburg and both had a pair of runs batted in.
