SOFTBALL: Thursday's roundup,

NEWVILLE >> The offense was productive enough to overcome five errors and a potent Big Spring hitting attack.

That allowed Greencastle-Antrim to pick up a 10-7 Mid Penn Colonial Division softball victory on the road Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (6-2, 3-1 MPC) totaled 12 hits, including two doubles and a triple by Ally Brown.

"The offense played real well, but the defense still has to tighten up," G-A coach Mark DeCarli said. "Every time we play Big Spring we expect a battle – and we got one – but we hung tough and pulled out a win."

Brown had four runs batted in for the Blue Devils. Katie Gelsinger was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Alison Shockey was 3-for-4, Ali Sherman was 2-for-3 and Brooke Zeger belted her first home run of the season.

Liz Ward was the beneficiary of the scoring, getting the win on the mound, although the Bulldogs rapped out 13 hits, including a three-run blast by Kelsi Minnich in the fifth inning to make it 8-7.

The Rockets (8-0, 4-0 MPC) racked up 13 hits and held the Maidens (1-8, 1-3 MPC) to only one.

"Well, they beat the snot of us," Maiden coach Doug Stuart said. "JB has a very nice team. They can bunt, slap; they've got some speed. They're the best team we've faced this year, and that fifth inning just got away from us."

Shania Fogelsonger was the big hitter for the Rockets, finishing 4-for-5 with an RBI. Brooke Pittman was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, and Taryn Miller was 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Nina Shatzer went 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of RBIs.
