H.S. GOLF: Chambersburg wraps up another unbeaten season in MPC Colonial

CHAMBERSBURG >> Going back to play at its long-time home, the Chambersburg golf team didn't miss a beat Monday afternoon.

In the final Mid Penn Colonial Division match of the season at Chambersburg Country Club, the Trojans totaled 317 strokes to finish with a 30-0 record and run their win streak to 163 matches.

"It was nice for the kids to continue the tradition that's been in place for awhile now," Chambersburg coach Mark Yost said.

Trojan senior Jordan Shaffer remained hot, scoring an even-par 73 to earn his fourth medalist honor of the season in six events. Freshman Karsen Rush was right behind with a 74.

Yost said, "It was a great round by Jordan, who is peaking at the right time. He was 3-under at one point, but he couldn't get up and down to save par on his last hole, No. 11. Karsen had a real nice bounce-back round from last week, and he had it to 2-under after five holes – he birdied No. 2 and 3."

Waynesboro's Nick Franki had his best round of the season to tie Rush for the runner-up spot at 74.

Indian coach Ryan Henderson said, "Nick was 1-under par on the back nine. He made birdies on 15 and 17 and bogeyed the 18th. He sprayed some of his tee shots, but scrambled like a champ."

Chambersburg's Ian Patterson also broke 8- with a 79, while Chad Harbaugh of Greencastle-Antrim (83) and Jacob Suder of James Buchanan (84) were next in line.

Waynesboro finished second ahead of G-A, and the Indians' only six defeats were by the Trojans. Shippensburg placed fourth for the first time, giving the Greyhounds six wins after going winless for two straight seasons.

For the girls, the Trojans' Mary Beth Norcross had her best score, an 87, to lead the way.

Yost said, "She had an injury earlier, so it was good to see her have a nice showing."
