H.S. GOLF: Chambersburg's Jordan Shaffer fires 1-under 71

CARLISLE >> When you have both your driver and your putter working, a good score is likely to result.

Chambersburg's Jordan Shaffer found himself in that pleasant zone Thursday afternoon and he used it to shoot a 1-under par 71 at Eagles Crossing Golf Course, helping the Trojans take the Mid Penn Colonial Division team title and run their winning streak to 158 victories in a row.

"My driver and my putter were working well together, and that was the key part of my round," Shaffer said.

Shaffer started on No. 8 and quickly found himself three over par. But he birdied three holes in a row, Nos. 5 through 7, to right the ship, and he added another birdie on No. 18 to get into red figures.

Shaffer said, "I'm glad I finally had this kind of round; it should help my confidence going into the postseason."

Also for Chambersburg, Luke Ocker scored a 76 and Tom Shearer had 77, but the Trojans' team score of 331 was 15 strokes above their previous high score.

"It was nice to still get a win when a lot of the kids didn't play as well as they can," Trojan coach Mark Yost said. "Karsen Rush (81) had a tough day on the greens, but other guys picked up the slack."

Nick Franki of Waynesboro placed second with a 75, followed by Ocker, Shearer and Jacob Suder of James Buchanan (79).

Greencastle-Antrim's Amanda Steier tied Olivia Gardenhour of Waynesboro for top honors among the girls with a round of 86.
