MERCERBURG 169, ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC PREP 232 >> Mercersburg Academy's golf team earned a season-opening victory against St. John's at Whitetail on Thursday afternoon.

Ross Brown led the Blue Storm with a 40, and he won medalist honors for the day. He was followed by teammate Ruichi Zhou, who finished with a 41, and Roland Morris and Mike DeNunzio each shot 44s to round out Mercersburg's scoring.

"The team was disappointed with their effort today," Blue Storm coach Doug Smith said. "It was the first match of the year and their response in match play suffered. We have high expectations this year, but we need to keep our heads and build from struggles."

Cole Grieser led St. John's with a 43.
