GIRLS TENNIS: James Buchanan season preview

James Buchanan Rockets

Coach: Terri Beegle, ninth season, 28-68-1 (.294).

Last year: 10-5 (6-4 Mid Penn Colonial Division).

Returning players: Rachel Martin (jr., No. 1 singles), Meredith Sanders (jr., No. 2 singles), Abby Heinbaugh (sr., No. 3 singles), Rachel Poffenberger (sr., doubles), Violet Clark (sr., doubles).

Other top players: Autumn Schweizer (sr., doubles), Megan Hoffeditz (so., doubles), Maggie Strawoet (fr., singles/doubles), Abby Mackling (so., doubles), Danessa Myers (jr., doubles).

Outlook: Beegle said, "A lot of it is up in the air; we're trying to figure out doubles, so we're mixing and matching. I have a lot of new kids who decided to come out who are athletic, so once they get the hang of it, it's a whole new ballgame. We don't have a lot of match experience, though."

Notes: The Rockets had 21 girls come out for the team, which Beegle said was "extremely high" ... Last year, Martin teamed up with Kaylee Griffith, who has graduated, to win a gold medal in No. 1 doubles at the MPC Championships ... Martin is the only returner with singles experience.

Season opener: Today, at Trinity, 3:30.
