GIRLS SOCCER: Thursday's roundup

MCCONNELLSBURG 4, CHESTNUT RIDGE 1 >> McConnellsburg earned a Sideling Hill League victory over Chestnut Ridge on Senior Night.

"I was a little concerned because we sort of started off in slow motion," McConnellsburg coach Toby McGarvey said. "They scored first this evening, but after the first 20 minutes our girls took over. Once we started winning the ball and got possession it pretty much sealed the deal for us."

The Spartans played like a different team after the first 20 minutes of the game, taking possession and scoring four unanswered goals. Defenders in the back field kept Chestnut Ridge's offense at bay, limiting the Lions to just seven shots.

Seniors Hannah McGarvey, Haley Garlock and Alexis Mellott all had a goal or an assist in their final regular season game at McConnellsburg. The Spartans still have a chance at hosting a playoff game, but it is not looking likely.

"I'm glad for our seniors," Toby McGarvey said. "This is our last home game of the regular season, and I'm glad their last game here was a win for them."
