GIRLS SOCCER: Thursday's roundup, Waynesboro puts up 3 goals in second half
MERCERSBURG >> James Buchanan scored an early goal and held that 1-0 lead for 46 minutes, but couldn't close the deal against Waynesboro.
The Maidens tied the game with 27 minutes left and Kennedy Chandler scored two goals to lift Waynesboro to a 3-1 Mid Penn Colonial Conference girls soccer victory Thursday night.
"That first half is as good as we've ever played," Rocket coach Terry Appleby said. "We played hard and we played with class and I can't be anything but proud of them."
Madison Peck converted a pass from Sydney Benedick just eight minutes into the game for JB (4-4, 2-2 MPC).
Elizabeth Churchman tied the game for Waynesboro (5-1-1, 3-0-1 MPC). Chandler scored the game-winner with 19 minutes left and clinched it with 12 minutes to go.
Appleby said, "We got a bit tired – this was our third game this week on this big field. We tried a new system and it worked for a while, but they eventually figured it out."
"In the first half JB outworked us and we couldn't keep possession," Maidens coach Brian Fisher said. "Our fitness looked good and we played with more patience and intelligence in the second half. This was the third time we've come from behind to win or tie this year. Churchman and Chandler had their best games of the season tonight."

SHIPPENSBURG 4, BIG SPRING 3, OT >> With just 1:12 remaining in the second overtime period, Jenny Lemay knocked the ball into the net to lift Shippensburg over Big Spring in a Mid Penn Colonial Division game.
It was a wild finish to a game that saw four goals scored in the last five minutes of regulation. Big Spring held a 2-0 lead at halftime and nursed that advantage until Hannah Franklin scored for Ship at 75:26. But the Bulldogs' Katie Caruso made it 3-1 at 76:08.
Then Natalie Nye scored at 77:36 for Shippensburg (1-5, 1-3 MPC), and just before the end of regulation, Kara Newell found the net for tying goal.
Lemay took an assist from Julia Nye for the winning goal in overtime.
Lady Hound coach Mary Miller said, "We really stepped it up in the second half and fought harder for the ball to get back into the game. We never gave up, and pushed each other."

BOILING SPRINGS 3, GREENCASTLE 1 >> All the scoring came in the first half of a Mid Penn Colonial Division scrap that Boiling Springs captured over Greencastle-Antrim.
Madison Hughes scored twice to give the Bubblers a 2-0 lead that turned out to be the margin of victory.
Ally Rudy got one back after a pass from Hannah Beeler for the Blue Devils (2-2-1, 2-2 MPC).
G-A coach Greg Cole said, "After making adjustments at the break, we played a much better second half. Boiling Springs played a direct type of soccer tonight and we didn't adjust to their speed, which they have a lot of. They were the better team tonight."

EVERETT 3, MCCONNELLSBURG 0 >> Everett scored a goal just eight minutes into the game and kept momentum the rest of the way to post a Sideling Hill/Inter County Conference win over McConnellsburg.
"We started out flat, and kept it that way," Spartans coach Toby McGarvey said. "Everett deserves credit; they outplayed us tonight. We had a couple of good opportunities from close range in the second half that could evened things up, but didn't get them."
Kellyn Perry made 11 saves for McConnellsburg (2-3, 1-1 SHL, 0-1 ICC).
