GIRLS SOCCER: Tuesday's roundup,

CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg's girls soccer team capitalized on two set pieces Tuesday night at Trojan Stadium and surprised Central Dauphin 2-1 for a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory.

"We're making the most of our opportunities and scoring chances on throw-ins, corners and now a direct kick," Trojan coach Eric Guyer said, "but we need to continue to work to generate more shots on goal."

The Rams out-shot Chambersburg 11-8, but fell victim to goals on a direct kick and a corner kick.

Less than four minutes before halftime, Liz Bishop broke a scoreless deadlock when she hit a free kick into the net from about 30 yards away.

CD tied the game in the first minute of the second half on a goal by Lauren Currey and it stayed 1-1 until 11 minutes remained. Gabriella Lecuona sent in a corner kick that Claire Jacobs headed into the net for the game-winner for the Trojans (2-1, 1-0 MPC).

Guyer said, "Jacobs was left unmarked just inside the 18, and Gabby delivered a perfect ball. Jacobs did a spectacular job of heading it and keeping it on frame."

Megan Cottingham made 10 saves to keep the Rams at bay.

"We did a nice job of staying organized and communicating on defense, and I was pleased that the girls maintained their composure and didn't allow CD to gain too much momentum from its goal," Guyer said. "It was a great overall effort."

WAYNESBORO 1, GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM 0 >> A goal with 12 minutes to go by freshman Skylar Lambert lifted Waynesboro to a key Mid Penn Colonial Division victory over Greencastle-Antrim at Kaley Field.

Lambert scored her first career goal when she got loose in the middle of the box and sent a shot inside the far post.

The Maidens (3-0, 1-0 MPC) out-shot G-A 7-4 and goalkeeper Taylor Welty made four saves to preserve the shutout.

Blue Devil coach Greg Cole said, "It was a Boro-Greencastle game like it has been for my seven years here – very physical. We've won games against them off our set pieces before and it was part of our game plan – let them foul us and use it against them. And we had three great opportunities in the first 10 minutes. Alyssa (Denkovich) hit one off the crossbar and another off the post, and Ally (Rudy) headed one just wide."

Greencastle (0-1, 0-1 MPC) may have lost Megan Swam for the season to an injury.

Cole said, "We need to find our midfield. We tried some different combinations tonight, but we're not set yet."

Alexis Mellott hit the net for McConnellsburg (0-2), after an assist from Michaela Kendall.
