Greencastle-Antrim tops Chambersburg girls by 20

CHAMBERSBURG - The Chambersburg Lady Trojans came into their matchup against Greencastle-Antrim knowing they were in for a tough game.

The Blue Devils came into the 9th annual Dunks for Drew event at an impressive 16-1, while the Trojans were experiencing a completely opposite season with a record of 1-18. The final score reflected those records, with Greencastle taking a 20-point win, 58-38.

With Chambersburg, hosting the game on its court in front of a large crowd and Greencastle in the middle of a stretch in which it plays five games in six days,it could have turned into a trap game for G-A.

“We knew we were going to be pretty tired coming into this game, having played three in the last three days,” Greencastle coach Mike Rhine said, “This is like a college-type game for us. We don’t practice in this kind of place, but it's nice that we get to play here once a year.”

Chambersburg started out focused and dialed in while Greencastle’s fatigue hindered its shots, but the Blue Devils still managed to end the first quarter with a six-point lead.

As the game progressed, turnovers began to mar the Trojans' effort and Greencastle took advantage of those poor passes. G-A eventually worked into a rhythm and ended the half with an 18-8 run and a 16-point lead.

“Turnovers have been our Achilles heel all year, but our kids played very hard against a good team and I feel like we played decently on defense against (Hannah) Crist and (Jenay) Faulkner,” Trojan coach Barry Purvis said.

The second half was much of the same for the teams - Chambersburg continued to struggle with turning the ball over and Greencastle fortified its lead with free throws and timely 3-pointers from Faulkner.

Faulkner led all scorers with 19 points, knocking down four 3-pointers while picking up multiple blocks on the defensive end. Her partner in crime, Crist, also had a strong game, making two threes on her way to 14 points.

For Chambersburg, Shadai Joyner and Lindsay Embly led the way. Joyner finished with 11 points while Embly ended the game with 10. Taylor Vrabel also added nine points for Chambersburg, which hit a season-high six 3-pointers - three by Joyner.
