FIELD HOCKEY: Wednesday's roundup, Chambersburg outlasts Cedar Cliff, 2-1

CHAMBERSBURG >> It couldn't have been a more even match-up.

Both Chambersburg and Cedar Cliff's field hockey team recorded five shots on goal. Both goaltenders picked up four saves. Cedar Cliff had five penalty corners, compared to four for the Trojans.

But it was one goal that made the difference, as Chambersburg scored twice in a 2-1 victory over the Colts in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action on Wednesday afternoon.

"The girls came to play field hockey today," Trojan coach Jen Amsley said. "It was fun to watch them play. We played together as a team and stuck to our game plan. Our two goals were hard-earned goals."

Although Cedar Cliff scored almost immediately out of the gate, Chambersburg (3-3, 2-3 MPC) was not deterred. Less than two minutes later on a penalty corner, Rachel Dusman inserted to Madison Schmus, who sent it right back to Dusman. She scored from the stroke mark in front of the cage.

About ten minutes later, Meghan Sharpe scored an unassisted tally that proved to be the game winner.

"We had stellar defensive play from Madison Schmus and Jess Corwell today to help preserve the win," Amsley said. "Hannah Raines and Jordyn Amsley really stepped up their game today. It was a great team effort and win today for the Trojans."
