BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Chambersburg earns first win of the season

CARLISLE >> For the first time this season, Chambersburg's boys volleyball team got a mark in the win column.

After narrowly winning the first set of Tuesday's match against Carlisle, the Trojans went on to dominate the final two sets and claim a 3-0 victory in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action.

"We passed well, and we served tough for the majority of the match," Chambersburg coach Marta Cummings said. "We played good defense and kept many balls alive, which we weren't doing in the last few matches. We worked to earn more points on our side instead of relying on Carlisle to make errors."

Defense was a big key in the win for Chambersburg (1-4, 1-2 MPC) with three Trojans finishing with double-digit digs. Kenny Coppens led the way with 13, while Billy Russo and Sam Stonesifer finished with 12 and 10, respectively.

Russo was also the leading offensive weapon, racking up 10 kills. Riley Washington, Stonesifer and Evan Misal each contributed four. "Everyone on the court was having fun and playing with confidence," Cummings said. "I felt like tonight's match was a step in the right direction, and I'm anxious to see more growth and continued success."
