TRACK & FIELD: State College manages sweep over Chambersburg

CHAMBERSBURG >> Despite losing to State College in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division track & field meet on Tuesday afternoon, both Chambersburg coaches were happy with their team's efforts.

The Little Lions won the boys meet 79.5-70.5 and the girls 82-68. The Trojans finished with 4-3 (4-3 MPC) records for both teams.

The boys meet came down to the final event, the 4x400 relay, and State College eked out a win, 3:30.2 to 3:30.5.

"I was proud of our guys; they really battled in every event," Chambersburg boys coach Bob Walker said. "We've improved a lot since the first meet. Our seniors really wanted to have their last home meet be special and I think they did.

"Jake Russo had personal bests in both of his events, Nate Long, Noah Shatzer and Kendall Keepler all won an event and Alex Aquino-Flores and Kevin Madrigal both did well."

Russo won the long jump (20-2) and was second in the triple jump (41-5.75), Long won the javelin (160-10) and was second in the shot put (44-8.75), Shatzer won the 110 hurdles (16.2) and was second in the 300 (43.8), Keepler took the high jump (5-10) and helped the 4x100 relay team to a victory, Aquino-Flores was second in the 200 (23.3) and Madrigal took third in the 800 (2:02.9).

Other Trojan winners were Kelton Chastulik (shot put, 47-6.5) and discus (156-0) and Quinn Mangan (3200, 10:37.6).

Chambersburg girls coach Chris Monheim said, "This was clearly our best meet of the season, even though we lost. They're just that good. We swept the high jump, we took 1-2 in the shot and we had a lot of season-best efforts on the track."

Miana Harrison won the 400 (1:02.9) and was second in the 100 despite being under the weather. The only other Trojan win on the track was the 4x400 team of Cirsten Kelly, Rachael Berman, Madison Swain and Harrison (4:11.8).

Winners in the field included Reagan Winebrenner (shot put, 34-4), Mathia McKay (javelin, 106-6) and Jaelynn Walker (high jump, 4-10).

Monheim said, "Kelly went under 26 (25.8) for the first time in the 200 and that's the best time we've had in that event for a couple of years. Hayley Nolan was second in the 300 with her best time (50.8). And Reagan and Mathia had their best throws of the season."
