TRACK & FIELD: Monday's roundup
SOUTHERN FULTON SWEPT BY CHESTNUT RIDGE >> Southern Fulton's track & field team fell to Chestnut Ridge in a non-league sweep on Monday.
The boys (7-4) got off to a strong start, winning six of the first eight track events, but ultimately fell 88-53. The girls (4-7) won just three events in a 107-43 defeat.
For the boys, Chase Varner picked up a pair of wins in the 1600 (4:59.5) and 800 (2:12.5) and was the anchor of the winning 4x800 relay team that also included Jacob Pryor, Jacob Murray and Benji Voight. Dristin Mellott picked up a win in the 110 hurdles (17.0), and Ryan Shank took the top spot in the 400 (56.7).
For the girls, Celina Merchant won the 300 hurdles (52.9), and Linsey Pryor won the pole vault (8-0). The 4x400 team of Victoria Tyler, Porsha McCarty, Merchant and Shaelyn Wawro picked up a win in 4:35.5.
