TRACK & FIELD: Thursday's roundup, Shippensburg splits with Boiling Springs


BOILING SPRINGS >> Shippensburg's boys track & field team earned a victory over Boiling Springs on Thursday to stay unbeaten both overall and in the Mid Penn Colonial Division.

The Greyhounds won, 83-67. But the Lady Hounds weren't as fortunate, suffering a 110-40 defeat.

Jordan Turner led the boys team (3-0, 3-0 MPC) with a pair of victories. He took the 110 hurdles in 17.0 seconds then added a victory in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.5 seconds. Ship was especially strong in the field with wins from Dylan Rotz (shot put), Garret Cavanaugh (discus), Cody Gustafson (triple jump), David Boarts (high jump) and Zach Greenawalt (pole vault).

The Lady Hounds (1-2, 1-2 MPC) got wins from Ava Franklin (3,200), Morgan Wendle (long jump), Natalie Nye (pole vault) and Shelby Rowles (javelin).

MCCONNELLSBURG SWEEPS PAIR >> McConnellsburg's boys and girls track teams both managed to defeat Northern Bedford and Mount Union in an Inter-County Conference tri-meet.

For the boys (5-3, 5-3 ICC), Patrick Keefer won the 400 and 800 and anchored two winning relay teams. Josh Booth captured both hurdles events and ran a relay leg, and Chance Hawbaker placed first in the 200 and the high jump.

The girls (6-2, 6-2) got another splendid effort from McKenzie Gelvin, who won the 100, 200 and 400. The Lady Spartans also had a nice day in the field, picking up wins from Sam Roberts (discus), Hannah McGarvey (high jump), Breanna Worthing (pole vault) and Veronica Stone (javelin).
