TRACK & FIELD: Tuesday's roundup, Shippensburg takes sweep over Waynesboro


SHIPPENSBURG SWEEPS WAYNESBORO >> Waynesboro put up a nice fight on Tuesday in a Mid Penn Colonial Division track & field meet, but Shippensburg was too tough to handle and picked up a pair of wins.

The Greyhounds won, 91-58, while the Lady Hounds earned the victory, 86-64.

Derek Lovett had a dominating day for Ship's boys (2-0, 2-0 MPC). He won the 100, 200 and 400. Ship also got a pair of individual wins from both Hunter Kent (1,600 and 3,200) and Jordan Turner (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles). Zach Greenawalt broke his own school record from last week in the pole vault. He cleared 12-7 – his previous record was 12-6.

Waynesboro's boys (1-1, 1-1 MPC) were led by Camry Huff, who captured first in the triple and long jumps.

On the girls side, Shippensburg (1-1, 1-1 MPC) got double wins from Leah Fleming (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Ava Franklin (1,600, 3,200) and Natalie Nye (400, 800).

Kiki Shindledecker paced the Maidens (0-2, 0-2 MPC) with victories in the 100 and 200.

JB BOYS WIN, GIRLS TIE >> James Buchanan picked up a win and a tie against Mid Penn Colonial Division foe Big Spring.

The boys won 116-32, while the girls tied 75-75.

For the boys, Peter Hughey picked up wins in the 100 (11.10), 200 (22.70) and 400 (56.60). Clay Ziemba took the 110 hurdles (17.40) and 300 hurdles (44.90), while Dalton Leab won the 1600 (5:12). Ryan Hissong also picked up a pair of wins in the shot put (38-07) and javelin (128-04).

For the girls, Micki Heinbaugh won both the triple jump (30-05) and long jump (14-10.75). Haley Alger (100), Tristen Amsley (200) picked up wins on the track, and Alger also got a win in the pole vault (9-0). Jenna Carbaugh got a win in the high jump.

SPARTANS COMPETE IN TRI-MEET >> It was a pretty successful day for McConnellsburg in an Inter-County Conference tri-meet.

The girls defeated Southern Huntingdon, 83-67, and West Branch, 93-56. The boys were ousted by the Rockets, 82-68, but dominated West Branch, 94-56.

The Lady Spartans (4-2, 4-2 ICC) got a big day from McKenzie Gelvin, who won all three dashes and anchored the winning 4x4 relay. In the field, Veronica Stone won the shot put and the javelin.

Josh Booth was the top performer for the boys (3-3, 3-3 ICC). He won both hurdle races.

SO. FULTON SPLITS TRI-MEET >> Southern Fulton's boys team had a successful day, picking up a pair of Inter-County Conference victories with a 98-52 win over Juniata Valley and an 80-70 topping of Northern Bedford.

The Indians' girls team wasn't as lucky; it fell to Northern Bedford, 83-63, and narrowly lost to Juniata Valley, 78-72.

Chase Varner and Dristin Mellott each picked up a pair of individual victories for the boys (5-1, 4-0 ICC). Varner won the 1,600 and the 800, and Mellott took first in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault.

The only winners for the girls (3-3, 1-3 ICC) were Celina Merchant (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Linsey Pryor (pole vault).
