BOYS TENNIS: Tuesday's roundup

STATE COLLEGE 4, CHAMBERSBURG 1 >> Chambersburg came into Tuesday's Mid Penn Commonwealth Division match riding a five-match winning streak. But it ran into a superior team and fell to State College.

"Today we saw some great tennis as we competed against an excellent team," Trojan coach Brad Hill said.

The only point for Chambersburg (6-3, 3-1 MPC) came at No. 2 doubles, with Garrett Ernst and Nayyer Malik powering to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Andrew Skipper and Tommy O'Halloran.

In the other four matches, the Trojans did not win more than two games.

TRINITY 3, JAMES BUCHANAN 2 >> James Buchanan dropped another narrow Mid Penn Colonial Division match, this time at the hands of Trinity.

The Rockets (6-6, 2-6 MPC) got a victory from Hunter Sowers at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and Isaac Shenton and Matt Schofield teamed up for a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles.

"Josh Summers was sick today, so I had to move some things around," JB coach Terri Beegle said. "Isaac Shenton has been very, very steady, and his serve was just spot on tonight. Matt filled in at the No. 1 doubles spot and did well there."

Chance Wishard suffered a narrow loss at No. 1 singles, and although Clay Murray fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, all of his games against Sean Palmer went to deuce.

"Chance played a really good match," Beegle said. "That was one that could've gone either way. The guy he played is like 6-foot-2, and he just took over at certain times."

"I was a bit disappointed with our doubles play today," Mercersburg coach Eric Hicks said. "The match came down to the No. 3 doubles, and after (John Huang and Alec Jones) fell behind 3-0, they made some good adjustments and came roaring back. We'll take this win over a Hollidaysburg team that was steady and constant."

Saaman Ghodsi (10-2), Teddy Schoeck (10-6), Shayan Ghodsi (10-3) and Huang (10-2) picked up singles wins for Mercersburg, and Hicks and Saaman Ghodsi also picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
