BOYS SOCCER: Monday's roundup, Fannett-Metal suffers crucial defeat to Everett

EVERETT >> Fannett-Metal had been on cruise-control in the last month of the season, riding toward the playoffs thanks to an 11-game winning streak, but Monday the Tigers hit a speed bump.

Fannett-Metal was handed its first loss since September by Sidling-Hill League foe Everett, in a 6-2 decision – the most goals allowed by the Tigers this season. The loss knocked Fannett-Metal (14-3, 9-2 SHL) out of first place in the league with just one game remaining in the regular season.

Mickell McGee and Layton Hoffmann scored for the Tigers, giving Fannett-Metal a one-goal lead after the first half, but the Warriors came out in the second half with momentum, scoring five unanswered goals, beating FM on many one-on-one opportunities.

"We played well in the first half, but we came out on our heels in the second, and it showed," Fannett-Metal coach Greg Best said.

The loss was not all bad news for the Tigers, though. McGee, only a junior, broke the Fannett-Metal school record for career goals with his 55th. The previous record was set in 1997 by Stuart Moats, who had 54 career goals. McGee has 33 goals this season.
