BOYS SOCCER: Erik Espinoza's hat trick leads Chambersburg to victory

GameTimePA.com report

CHAMBERSBURG >> Erik Espinoza delivered a natural hat trick in the first half, and Chambersburg's boys soccer team claimed a 4-0 victory over Mifflin County in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division matchup Tuesday.

Espinoza scored early and often for the Trojans (8-2-2, 6-2-2 MPC), who are now on a four-game win streak. Espinoza opened the scoring in the second minute of the game with an assist from Eric Dixon. Ten minutes later, he had scored two more goals, and the Huskies faced a 3-0 deficit they couldn't overcome. Dixon also had an assist on the second goal.

"Erik went through a little slump where he wasn't scoring for about four or five games in a row," Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. "That happens to every scorer, but the thing with Erik is he perseveres through a lot of stuff. He works his butt off, and anything he can do for the team, that's what he does."

Chuy Munoz also scored for the Trojans, with an assist from Victor Canel.

Chambersburg limited Mifflin County to just three shots and no corners. Chandler Schur and Jacob Dougal combined for three saves in the shutout.

"The last couple of practices, we have been working on getting our forwards to make varied runs, whether it be moving laterally or getting them behind the defense and checking back to the ball," Grove said. "I thought we did a good job of that tonight. You can tell the hard work in practice has been paying off the last couple games. We're hoping to continue that momentum Thursday."

The Trojans' current win streak matches their longest of the season.
