Girls lacrosse
MERCERSBURG 10, ST. JOHN'S 6 >> Mercersburg Academy held off St. John's Catholic Prep for a victory that secured the Blue Storm's place in the Independent Parochial School League championship.
The Blue Storm (5-8, 2-1 IPSL) held onto a 6-5 lead heading into halftime and held St. John's off the board until there was 9:35 left on the clock.
"Despite the game delay (for weather), the girls came out ready to play today," Mercersburg coach Katherine Dyson said. "We saw greater effort to 50-50 balls and more instinctive risk-taking on defense, looking for interceptions and early slides. The girls worked well together moving the ball up the field as a team, which is what we want to see at this point in the season."
Amanda Broyles and Devon Stuzin each had a hat trick for the Blue Storm, while Sophia Garibaldi netted two goals. Alyson Kinney recorded a pair of assists.
Mercersburg will head to St. James for the title game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
