Boys lacrosse

CARLISLE 17, CHAMBERSBURG 6 >> Carlisle's boys lacrosse team jumped out to a big lead and Chambersburg couldn't recover in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division defeat on Thursday.

The Trojans (3-6, 2-6 MPC) scored four goals in the final quarter but put away just two in the first three. The Thundering Herd held a 12-2 lead after three quarters.

Jake Pierson led Chambersburg with three goals, and Grant Swisher had two goals and an assist. Brandin Cosey also scored for the Trojans.

Ryan Godfrey and George Faller each had four goals for Carlisle.

Girls lacrosse

CARLISLE 15, CHAMBERSBURG 8 >> Chambersburg played Carlisle tough, but the Thundering Herd pulled away late for a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division win.

The Trojans (1-8, 1-6 MPC) trailed just 3-2 with seven minutes left in the first half, but Carlisle scored five unanswered goals to take an 8-2 lead.

"We have very few subs because of injuries, so that hurt us," Chambersburg coach Katie Feairheller said. "We were able to stay right with them there for awhile, but we let it get away from us."

Kendyl Stewart led the Trojans with three goals, and Avery Rife and Abby Wilmot had two. Liza Ernst added a goal, and Emily Glennon had three assists. Goalie Alyssa Boock was credited with 18 saves.

MERCERSBURG 21, ST. MARIA GORETTI 13 >> St. Maria Goretti pulled within two early in the second half, but Mercersburg Academy pulled away late for an Independent Parochial School League win.

The Blue Storm (3-6, 101 IPSL) had an 11-7 halftime lead, but Goretti scored two quick goals to make it 11-9. Mercersburg's defense tightened up, though, and Mercersburg outscored the Gaels 10-4 the rest of the way.

Storm coach Katherine Dyson said, "The girls played with poise and direction and dictated the game today. We looked better and more organized on offense while making big stops and smart decisions on defense."

Amanda Broyles racked up six goals for Mercersburg, and Alyson Kinney added five goals and three assists. Sophia Garibaldi and Devon Stuzin both had hat tricks for the Blue Storm.
