BOYS HOOPS: Thursday's roundup

McConnellsburg 62, Fannett-Metal 40: Shawn Garlock had one of the best games of his career to lift McConnellsburg's boys basketball team to a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference victory over Fannett-Metal on Thursday night.

Garlock finished with a career-high 13 points, and he also pulled down six rebounds.

"It was nice to get Shawn going," McConnellsburg coach Dane Pollock said. "We've needed a post player to step up with Quintin (Miller) out (with an injury). We spread their zone out a little bit, and when we started penetrating the zone, we really stared breaking it down. We were getting easier shots inside and got better at drawing fouls."

The Spartans (18-3, 13-2 SHL, 11-2 ICC) also got a big game from Chase Novak, who cluttered the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Landon Richards and Jake Boehme also finished in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Three different players scored in double figures for the Tigers (5-16, 3-12 SHL, 3-10 ICC), but the problem was the rest of the team combined for a mere two points. Mikell McGee led the way with 16 points, while Lucas Wingert scored 12 and Sawyer Rosenberry had a season-high 10.

Shalom Christian 56, Calvary 23: Shalom Christian got point contributions from nine different players en route to a dominating victory over Calvary Christian in Mason-Dixon Christian Conference action.

The Flames started strong, leading 15-5 after the first quarter, but it was the second quarter in which they won the game. Shalom (17-6, 10-3 MDCC) out-scored the Eagles by 21 points in the second quarter alone and led 42-11 at halftime.

"Calvary is a team that is going through a rebounding year, and we were able to play good defense and get a lot of contributions offensively," Flames coach Danley Shank said. "I thought we were able to find the open man and didn't settle for outsides shots against their zone defense."

Jonah Stains scored 16 points to pace Shalom, and Micah Lehman followed right behind with a career-high 14 points.
