BOYS HOOPS: Wednesday's roundup

SCOTLAND - The Scotland Performance Institute's goal from the beginning was to resurrect the Scotland School's highly regarded reputation since the original Scotland doors closed in 2012.

And a 78-69 win over Kiski Prep in front of a home crowd is certainly a good place to start.

Scotland (4-8) took a 13-0 lead to start the first half, but Kiski came roaring back to challenge SPI in the remaining minutes, keeping it close at the half, giving Scotland an eight-point led at the break.

"They are very well coached," Scotland coach Jareem Dowling said. "They were a formidable opponent. We were able to make a few extra plays and shots, and luckily the clock ran out of time so we could get the win at home."

Jawan Gray led SPI with 28 points, and was the only scorer for Scotland in the second half. Cheikna Demble scored a double-double with 16 points in the first half, and added 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Darian Dixos also scored in double figures for Scotland, scoring 12 points.

"I'm really happy with the turnout of local fans that came out to show some interest in our guys," Dowling said. "It was a good win on our home court and I'm so proud of the guys for continuing to get better to bring back the respect for the once great Scotland School."

The Indians led by two after the first quarter, but Jay Grubb and the Lions outscored Southern Fulton 15-8 in the second, and never looked back.

"We had no answer for Grubb (28 points) tonight," Southern Fulton coach Kent Hendershot said. "It was a very inconsistent effort against a very good team."

Grubb ended the night with 28 points.

Trent Rider led the Indians with 16 points, while Dylan Gordon earned a double-double, with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Gordon also had six steals.
