F-F highlights: C. Dauphin rallies to top Greencastle
At one point midway through the second quarter of Friday night's non-league boys basketball game, Greencastle-Antrim held a 31-11 lead over Central Dauphin.
But before the half was over, CD's Braydon Parr outscored the Blue Devils 9-2 to get his team back in the game. And Parr then capped off a huge Rams comeback with a game-winning drive with 15 seconds left to give the visitors a 54-53 victory over Greencastle.
Parr also hit back-to-back threes early in the fourth quarter to give CD a 45-44 lead, it's first lead since the opening minute of the game.
G-A coach Rick Lewis said, "Before the game we put on the board that we needed to take a punch and then counter punch. We know good teams won't stop playing when they get behind."
The Blue Devils (4-2) then did counter punch. Bryan Gembe scored on a drive, and Brandon Stuhler - who was a thorn in CD's side all night - hit two buckets, on a steal and a putback. When Stuhler fed Casey Hoover for a layup, Greencastle held a 52-45 lead.
"I think we weathered their storm pretty well, but they came back again," Lewis said.
The Rams (3-4) scored seven of the next eight points, with a 3-pointer by Chase Arnold bringing them to within 54-53 with 57 seconds left. The Blue Devils tried to hold onto the ball, but a turnover gave Central Dauphin possession and Parr made them pay when he broke free and drove in from the left side.
Parr (20) and Arnold (16) led CD, which pumped in 11 3-pointers. For the Devils, Stuhler (17), Gembe (12) and Hoover (11) led the way.
Big turnaround
Waynesboro had a rough outing Wednesday when it was spanked 67-46 by Northern York. The Indians made up for that setback by taking a long road trip Friday night to Muhlenberg and coming home with a 61-39 non-league win.
Cameron Keck and Logan Weibley each had 14 points for 'Boro (4-2).
"Our theme for the past 24 hours has been 'respond,'" Indian coach Tom Hoffman said. "As a collective group, we were embarrassed by our performance at Northern. I think tonight we had a focused group of young men who wanted to put Wednesday behind them and could not wait for the game to start.
"Logan Weibley is our unsung hero without a doubt. He does a lof of the dirty work for this team and simply outworks his man on both ends of the floor."
