GIRLS: Friday, CD pulls away from Chambersburg

CHAMBERSBURG - Chambersburg cut into Central Dauphin’s 10-point first-quarter lead with an effective second quarter, but the Rams’ Tori Lesko went off for 12 points in the third quarter.

That enabled CD to outscore the Trojans 21-7 in the third and pull away for a 59-26 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division girls basketball victory at CASHS Field House on Friday night.

The Rams (9-5, 5-4 MPC) led 15-5 after one, but Chambersburg outscored them 12-10 in the second quarter. In that period, Liz Bishop had five of her seven points, and Lindsay Embly and Shadai Joyner each netted three points.

“We played hard in the second quarter,” Trojan coach Barry Purvis said. “We made some defensive stops, and hit some baskets. We got it down to 31-24 and they got hit with two technicals. But we missed both foul shots and then threw the ball away.”

Then Lesko, who ended up with 21 points, made five baskets and a pair of free throws following halftime to put the game out of reach.

“Their coach said we gave them a little bit of a scare,” Purvis said. “But once their big scorer starting hitting, that was it.”

Embly led the Trojans (1-14, 0-9 MPC) with eight points and Taylor Vrabel had seven.
