GIRLS: Saturday, Rockets bounce back vs. F-M


MERCERSBURG - The James Buchanan girls basketball team bounced back from a tough loss Friday with a comfortable win 56-30 win over Fannett-Metal in a non-league game Saturday.

The Rockets outscored Fannett-Metal 29-10 in the first half, and continued to separate the score with a 23-point third quarter.

With a 52-15 lead to begin the final frame, James Buchanan (5-7) backed off, scoring just four points in the fourth.

“It was a good team win tonight,” James Buchanan coach Jen Lauthers said. “There were lots of quality minutes for everyone, and we worked well tonight. It was a great way to end the week.”

The Rockets were led by Charity Miller, who scored 17 points, followed by Tristen Amsley who had 11. Rachel Martin padded the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three blocks.

Fannett-Metal (5-5) was led by Taylor Coffman, who scored 10 points - all in the first and fourth quarters. The Tigers also had 14 steals.

Greencastle 65, East Pennsboro 43 >> Greencastle-Antrim piled up 11 3-pointers on its way to a comfortable non-league victory over East Pennsboro.

Jenay Faulkner knocked down five treys, while Hannah Crist and Meghan Hirneisen each sank three. The Panthers hit only two long-range shots.

Faulkner totaled 28 points, matching her high for the season, and added seven rebounds and four assists. Hirneisen posted a double-double, with 13 points and 10 boards, while Ashley True had seven rebounds and three assists.

Crist scored 21 points to bring her within 17 of 1,000 for her career.

East Pennsboro (4-9) got 15 points from freshman Sunshine McCrae.

Mercersburg 53, Peddie 33 >> Mercersburg Academy got a head start against Peddie in the Blue Storm's first Mid-Atlantic Prep League game of the season, coming home with a victory.

Thanks to an aggressive defense, Mercersburg limited Peddie to just 15 points in the first half, and stopped four of five scorers from scoring more than three points.

"That was the best defensive effort from a Mercersburg team in my time here as coach," Katie LaRue said.

Molly Taylor and led the Storm with 19 points, while Isiuwa Ogaghbon had a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for Mercersburg (6-1, 1-0 MAPL).

Tori Yoder also scored double-figures, adding 12 points.
