GIRLS: Friday, Bubblers down dormant JB, 44-25


MERCERSBURG - Boiling Springs limited James Buchanan to a six-point first half and the Bubblers worked their way to a 44-25 victory in a Mid Penn Colonial Division girls basketball game on Friday night.

A productive third quarter for the Rockets, in which they scored 18 points, sat between two quarters in whichJames Buchanan (4-7, 3-3 MPC) scored just one point.

“Obviously scoring each quarter is key,” James Buchanan coach Jen Lauthers said.

The Rockets had 20 turnovers, while shooting 19 percent from the field.

Rachel Martin scored six points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Charity Miller led in scoring with 11 points.

Greencastle 50, Northern York 15 >> Northern hung close for one quarter, trailing Greencastle-Antrim only 9-6, but after that it was all Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

G-A (10-1, 5-1 MPC) outscored the Polar Bears 41-9 over the final three periods.

Jenay Faulkner recorded another double-double for Greencastle with 23 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.

Hannah Crist scored 12 points and is now 38 away from 1,000 points in her career and she added four assists. Meghan Hirneisen contributed six rebounds and four steals.

Big Spring 61, Waynesboro 53 >> Waynesboro allowed Big Spring to regain momentum in the third quarter of a Mid Penn Colonial Division game and let a first-half lead slip in a loss to the Bulldogs.

After leading 30-24 at halftime, the Maidens (4-8, 2-4 MPC) fell 15-6 in the third quarter, and were outscored 22-17 in the final frame.

"It was a tough loss. We battled till the end," Waynesboro coach Allison Steiger said. "We struggled with our offense, and turnovers hurt us. The girls have nothing to hang their heads about in this game. I'm proud of their determination to finish the game with pride."

Cat Weber led Waynesboro with 21 points, followed by Chelsea Cover who scored 12. Hannah Swenski tallied 28 for the Bulldogs.

Thanks to a 23-4 lead in the first half, the Flames (9-1, 5-0 MDCC) coasted to victory, led by Brooke Emge, who scored 20 points. Emge also had six steals and four assists.

Lydia Harris added 12 points for Shalom.
