GIRLS HOOPS: Fannett-Metal takes down CV Christian

Fannett-Metal 73, Cumb. Valley Christian 38 >> Ten different players for Fannett-Metal got in on the scoring in the Tigers' non-league victory over Cumberland Valley Christian to open the season Monday.

The Tigers (1-0) jumped out to a 15-8 lead after the first quarter, but it was during the second quarter that they pulled away. The Blazers (1-2) trailed 41-18 at the break.

"We started out flat and could not break the press," CVC coach Mike Sanders said. "We built up too much of a hole and were unable to overcome it. We have to learn from the game, and keep growing."

Loryn Sanders poured in 21 points to lead CV Christian and Maddie Keck had eight.

Ally Hoffman had a fine effort for F-M. She led the team in scoring (18), rebounds (7) and assists (8). Maddy Johns finished with 11 points. Mikayla O'Donel contributed nine points, while Taylor Coffman and Becca Rotz split 16 evenly.

"The first couple minutes, we started slow and nervous, but were eventually able to seize control," Tigers coach Todd Best said. "We were able to get everyone some work tonight, which was nice. We are still looking to grow as we are a very young team."

Emily Metcalfe had four points and five steals for Fannett-Metal.
