Mercersburg's playoff run comes to an end

After pulling off a huge upset victory, Mercersburg Academy's 11-game winning streak came to end in the PAISAA baseball semifinals on Saturday in a 9-5 loss to Malvern Prep.

The Blue Storm (24-5) started the day off well enough, going up 2-0 in the top of first inning, but Malvern immediately responded, tying the game up in the home half of the inning.

Malvern went on to build up a 6-2 lead before St. Josh Smith smashed a three-run home run in the fourth inning to make an attempt at a comeback. But when Malvern scored three runs of insurance in the sixth, it was all she wrote for Mercersburg, which committed four errors on the day.

Will Oakley was the top hitter for the Blue Storm, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
