BASEBALL: Southern Fulton dominates Bellwood-Antis in ICC Championship

BELLWOOD >> Bellwood-Antis' baseball team drew the short end of the stick for Tuesday night's Inter-County Conference championship.

The Blue Devils, who start their district playoffs on Thursday, elected not to throw their ace, and Southern Fulton, which doesn't begin the postseason until next week, took advantage.

The Indians needed only six hits and five innings to take down Bellwood, 13-0, for their second straight ICC title.

"Bellwood was definitely at a disadvantage, and they couldn't throw their ace," SF coach Dustin Fischer said. "It was kind of disappointing, because everyone expected a nice pitchers' duel, but that was the just way the schedules played out."

Trent Rider did his thing for the Southern Fulton (19-2), though. He went the distance, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. He didn't walk any.

Although the Indians didn't hit all that well, they took advantage of some timely sacrifice flies and also drew eight walks. Bellwood-Antis (17-4) also committed six errors.

"We got some runs across without getting many hits," Fischer said. "It was a good game for us heading into the playoffs."

Dylan Gordon was the top hitter for Southern Fulton, going 3-for-3. Connor Litton was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. He notched his first home run of the season — a solo shot in the opening frame.
