BASEBALL: Friday's roundup, Southern Fulton shuts out Fannett-Metal

WARFORDSBURG >> Southern Fulton's baseball team racked up 10 runs on 12 hits, and Fannett-Metal mustered just one infield single in a 10-0 Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference defeat on Friday.

The Indians (18-2, 15-1 SHL, 13-1 ICC) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and grabbed a comfortable cushion with a five-run third. The Tigers, who end their season at 1-19 (0-16 SHL, 0-14 ICC) got their lone hit by Cole Funk.

"It wasn't a flashy game by any means, but we got the job done," Southern Fulton coach Dustin Fischer said. "We got everybody onto the field."

The Indians clinched both the Sideling Hill League and the ICC South. They will travel to Bellwood to face Bellwood-Antis in the ICC Championship game on Tuesday.

Carl Potter and Zach Clark both finished 3-for-3 for Southern Fulton, and Potter also had two RBIs and got the win on the mound.

SUSQUEHANNA TWP. 1, JAMES BUCHANAN 0 >> James Buchanan's season didn't end quite the way it wanted.

Susquehanna Township's Brett Floyd no-hit the Rockets, and the Indians scored one run in the first inning that proved to be the difference in a non-league contest. James Buchanan ends the season with a 6-13 record. It was 2-8 in the Mid Penn Colonial Division.

"Coming into the season, we thought our pitching and defense would be the biggest problems," JB coach Scott Folmar said, "But it was our offense, and those struggles continued today, but their pitcher did a great job. He was throwing strikes all day."

The Rockets' baserunners came via an error and one walk. Floyd finished with eight strikeouts. Remi Spoonhour (0-3) took a tough loss for the Rockets, giving up just two hits.

In the first, Chris Gotti led off with a walk for Suquehanna Twp. After he stole second, a deep fly ball moved him to third, and he scored on a groundout.

CHESTNUT RIDGE 14, MCCONNELLSBURG 9 >> McConnellsburg put up plenty of runs, but its pitching and defense just weren't there in a Sideling Hill League loss to Chestnut Ridge.

The Spartans (14-4, 12-4 SHL) put up nine runs on eight hits, including a three-run home run by Quintin Miller, his first of the season, but the Lions put up 14 runs on 14 hits and pulled away with a six-run sixth inning.

"It was our fourth game this week, and honestly we just looked like we ran out of gas," McConnellsburg coach Brian Ramsey said. "Nine runs should have been enough to win, but we didn't get the defense and pitching we're accustomed to. That's the way it goes sometimes."

Landon Richards finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Spartans, and Colton Strait was 2-for-3.
