BASEBALL: Friday's roundup

MCCONNELLSBURG 7, FANNETT-METAL 0 >> Spencer Souders pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts to run his record to 4-0, leading McConnellsburg to a 7-0 Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference victory over Fannett-Metal on Friday.

"He threw a great game," Spartan coach Brian Ramsey said. "He threw a lot of strikes and got ahead early in the count. We hit some hard balls right a people, but with the pitching we got it was enough."

For McConnellsburg (8-2, 8-1 SHL/ICC), Chase Novak knocked in three runs with a two-run single and a fielder's choice, and Landon Richards was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

For the Tigers (0-10, 0-9 SHL, 0-8 ICC), Hunter Kann absorbed the defeat, but he allowed only five hits.

Ramsey said, "It was our fourth game of the week and we're a little worn down, but we went 3-1 so that's OK."

NORTHERN BEDFORD 8, FORBES ROAD 6 >> Forbes Road out-hit Northern Bedford, but it wasn't enough in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference loss to the Panthers.

The Cardinals (2-8, 2-7 SHL, 1-7 ICC) racked up 11 hits, but they also committed four errors that led to five unearned runs for NBC. Forbes Road pushed across three runs in the seventh and had runners on second and third with two outs, but it couldn't cash in the tying runs.

"We out-hit them and did well offensively," FR coach Randy Gelvin said. "Our hitting was fine, but we made too many mistakes again. We continue to give up so many unearned runs."

Matt Brown finished 3-for-4 with a double, and Weylin Mitchell and Aaron Schepis both had two hits and a double.
