MERCERSBURG SPORTS: Saturday's roundup, Blue Storm baseball team remains undefeated with sweep

BLAIRSTOWN, N.J. >> Mercersburg Academy's baseball team continued rolling on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Storm hit the road to take on Blair in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League doubleheader and picked up a pair of wins to remain undefeated on the season.

"I don't know how these guys keep doing it," Mercersburg coach Karl Reisner said. "We're now 5-0 in the MAPL (8-0 overall), and that's really good considering how young we are. I started ninth-graders in both games on the mound, and to win both games, that's great."

Mercersburg won the first game, 4-0, behind the arm of Beau Lowery, who is now 4-0 on the mound. The Blue Storm then won the nightcap in walk-off fashion, 4-3, after allowing the tying run in the top of the seventh.

Lowery fired a two-hit shutout that featured four strikeouts and only one walk. Brandon Thomas was the clutch hitter, coming up with a two-run single in the top of the sixth.

In Game 2, Dylan Bartlett threw the first four innings, but it was Tristan Baker who picked up the win after throwing the last two outs of the seventh inning.

After allowing the Buccaneers to tie things up at 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Mercersburg quickly answered.

Mike De La Rosa led off with a single, and Desi Andrews laid down a bunt that he beat out to put runners on first and second with no outs. Baker then reached on an error to load the bases, and Chris Adusei-Poku drove in the winning run with a line drive.

"We played really good baseball, and to win a doubleheader at Blair is very unusual," Reisner said. "We played unbelievable defense. There were three defensive plays in the doubleheader that were Major League quality for us — plays I've never seen high school players make. It was amazing."
