BASEBALL: Thursday's roundup, Shippensburg's early leads holds up against Waynesboro

WAYNESBORO >> Shippensburg broke out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and parlayed that into a 7-3 Mid Penn Colonial Division baseball victory over Waynesboro on Thursday.

While the Greyhound offense was scoring the runs, pitcher Noah Auman was keeping the Indians (3-4, 1-1 MPC) off the scoreboard for the first five innings. He gave way to Damon Watkins in the sixth and Watkins finished out the game.

"Give credit to Auman – he pitched a pretty clean game for the first five innings," 'Boro coach Greg Chandler said.

For the Hounds (4-1, 2-0 MPC), leadoff batter Cole Friese was 3-for-5 and scored three runs, Nate Reiner drove in three runs and Cordell Shannon had a pair of hits. Sawyer Duffey and Francesco Maya each had two hits for the Indians.

Chandler said, "We didn't pitch well – we gave them seven walks and hit a batter and we played pretty sloppy in the first few innings. Pitching and defense, man ... when it rains, it pours."

GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM 11, JAMES BUCHANAN 3 >> The offense got going again for Greencastle-Antrim, which racked up 13 hits en route to a Mid Penn Colonial Division defeat of James Buchanan.

"We played OK defensively, but we just did not pitch very well today at all," Rocket coach Scott Folmar said. "On the flip side, Greencastle did a good job of taking advantage of their opportunities. They had some good at-bats in those innings where they got four runs. Also, their starter (Derek Measell) threw a great game for them today."

Measell earned the win by throwing six innings and allowing just two hits. He struck out three batters and walked two.

Offensively, Greencastle (3-2, 1-1 MPC) was led by Bailey Parker, who was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and two stolen bases. Matt Kline also had two hits.

Aaron Nagy and Jared Pine paced the Rockets (2-4, 0-2 MPC). Both went 2-for-3 and plated one run.
