BASEBALL: Saturday's roundup, Southern Fulton scores 2 in the 7th to edge Clear Spring

CLEAR SPRING >> Clear Spring scored one run in every inning on Saturday, but Southern Fulton's baseball team made a late push to pull out a victory.

Trailing 5-4, the Indians scored two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to come away with an 8-7 non-league win.

"It wasn't our best day by any means, but the kids showed a lot of heart today," Southern Fulton coach Dustin Fischer said.

Dylan Gordon notched a two-run double in the sixth inning to give the Indians (4-1) a 6-5 lead, but Clear Spring answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. The Blazers got two quick outs to lead off the seventh, but Robbie McCusker was hit by a pitch to start the rally.

Carl Potter, who improved to 2-0 on the mound with the win, followed McCusker with a single, and Zach Clark also hit a single to score McCusker and give Southern Fulton a 7-6 lead. Connor Litton capped off the rally with another RBI singe. He finished 2-for-4.

In the bottom of the frame, Potter got an out but walked the next three batters to load the bases. Clear Spring knocked home a run with a single, but Potter got some help from his defense when shortstop Litton and second baseman Tristan Douglas hooked up for a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

"It was a pretty good play to end the game," Fischer said. "You don't see plays like that at this level often."

Trent Rider started for the Indians, giving up four runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
