H.S. Highlights: Mercersburg shines at MAPL meet


Mercersburg Academy's Finley Stewart wowed at the MAPL Championships, taking home three gold medals and anchoring the fourth-place 4x400 relay team. She won the the 100 (12.81), 200 (26.06) and 400 (59.75) on the way to aiding the girls track & field team to a third-place finish at the MAPL championships.

"She is really unbelievable," Mercersburg coach Nikki Walker said. "She continues to work hard, and has the desire to improve."

First-year track & field athlete Tori Yoder placed second all three jumps, and broke the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 35-10.75.

Isiuwa Oghagbon won the shot put with a throw of 35-9 and placed second in the javelin (96-0). Molly Taylor placed third in the 800 (2:32.64).

The boys placed fourth, led by Gabriel Allgayer, who won three events. Allgayer anchored the winning 4x800 relay, won the boys 1,600 (4:24.86) by one second and claimed the 3,200 (10:03.70). He also ran in the third-place 4x400 relay.

Andrew Zhugayevich took home a second-place finish in the 400 (50.74) and third in the 800 (2:04.74).

Boys tennis

Mercersburg takes second in MAPL Tournament: Mercersburg scored 24 points, trailing the first-place team by just three points. Elliot Hicks won the MAPL title at No. 1 singles, for Mercersburg's first-ever win of the top flight at the MAPL tournament. Shayan Ghodsi won No. 3 singles and Saaman Ghodsi placed second in No. 2 singles.

Boys lacrosse

Hun 17, Mercersburg Academy 4: Mercersburg dropped an MAPL game to Hun after allowing 10 goals in the second half. Mercersburg falls to 10-7 and 2-3 in the MAPL.

Girls lacrosse

Mercersburg places third at Prep Lax Classic: The Blue Storm went 1-1 to claim third at the Prep Lax Classic, falling to St. John's 10-6 in the first round, and beating FCA 7-3 in the consolation game to break a 10-game losing streak to close out the season. Mercersburg finished 2-10.
