Track & field

The Mercersburg Academy indoor track & field teams had 12 top-six finishes from six runners in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League championships on Saturday.

The boys finished fifth with 22.50 points, and the girls claimed fourth with 25 team points.

The top finisher for the girls was Finley Stewart, who took gold in the 55 dash in a time of 7.56. She also took third in the 400, finishing in 1:04.17 for her personal best indoor time.

“The 55 dash was an exciting race because it was close the whole way," Mercersburg coach David Grady said. "Finley was determined, though, and powered her way right through the finish to separate herself from a couple of close competitors.”

Ryan Geitner placed third in the 1600 for the girls.

For the boys, Jude Ikekhua placed fourth in the 55 dash in 6.80, and third in the 400 (53.68). Will Oakley finished sixth in the 55 hurdles (8.95) and fifth in the high jump (5-03). Cole Kissam clinched a point with a sixth-place finish in the 1600, completing the race in 4:53.81, his personal best time.
