Red Lion wrestling to celebrate 50 years

Red Lion will celebrate 50 years of its wrestling program during Wednesday's match at home against Dallastown. The junior high/varsity wrestling doubleheader will also honor coaches and wrestlers throughout program history between matches.

Festivities will begin at 5 p.m., when the booster club will host a social with former coaches and wrestlers in the lobby outside the Fitzkee gymnasium until about 6:30 p.m. During that time, a slideshow will display photos from throughout the program history. The junior high teams also will compete inside the Fitzkee gymnasium during that time.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the former wrestlers and coaches will be introduced, starting with former coaches and followed by members of Red Lion's first wrestling team. State place winners and 100-win wrestlers will follow, and the remaining wrestlers will be introduced by graduating year.

The varsity match will begin soon after.

In 1965-66, Lynn Reigle formed the high school wrestling team and served as head coach until 1975. He later passed away in 1996. He was succeeded by six coaches. The Lions are currently led by Chris Schell, the seventh coach in program history.
