The Central York Panthers have gotten off to a strong start to the 2015-16 boys’ high school basketball season.

Last weekend the Panthers grabbed a victory at their home tip-off tournament, beating Penn Manor, 50-47 on Friday night, and then knocking off Eastern York 61-41 in Saturday’s championship.

Then on Tuesday, the Panthers came through in a big way again, knocking off Spring Grove 53-50 at Central York High School.

The wins are big early-season ones for a Central York program that pushed William Penn last season in YAIAA Division I only to have a tough offseason. The team’s top scorer Sam Saxton graduated, and big man Charlie Gingrich elected not to come out for basketball his senior season.

But head coach Kevin Schieler found a way to persevere, going with a smaller lineup and thus far the moves have paid dividends.
