Poll: YAIAA football Athlete of the Week | Oct. 12-Oct. 18

There were plenty of heroic performances this past weekend in YAIAA football.

The Dallastown Wildcats remained undefeated, after knocking off South Western at the Corral - the Mustangs entered the contest with a 5-1 record of their own and undefeated in YAIAA Division I play but it was the Wildcats who moved to 7-0 on the season. Quarterback Cade Gold was clutch again for the Wildcats - 81 yards rushing including a 54-yard touchdown run that proved the be the game-winning score in the team’s 29-21 win.

But that wasn’t the only impressive individual effort from the local football scene Friday. York Suburban continued its strong play in YAIAA Division II play, coming back to beat West York 23-22 on the power of a 21-yard field goal from Jonas Atkinson as time expired. York Suburban is now 3-0 in YAIAA Division II, tied atop the standings with Dover.

Hanover remained undefeated as well, ripping through Littlestown 36-14 to move to 7-0. While a number of players stood out for the Nighthawks it was the team’s rushing attack that led the way, specifically Jordan Laughman (34 carries, 190 yards) and Justin Barnes (12 carries, 132 yards).

Other top performers from the week that was included Ashton West of Bermudian Springs (20 carries, 90 yards, game-winning touchdown in overtime), Daniel Brewer of Kennard-Dale (backup quarterback who sparked team’s comeback victory) and Kendrick Boyd-Gillespie of Red Lion (10 catches, 204 yards, five touchdowns in Lions’ win over New Oxford).

A number of the above-mentioned competitors made out Athlete of the Week poll, along with some others that flew under the radar. Vote away before this week’s poll closes at 5 p.m. Monday.
