It’s the tail end of the 2015 sports season, and with that our pool for Athlete of the Week nominations is shallow.

But that doesn’t mean a local team doesn’t deserve our recognition.

The Northeastern Bobcats boys’ volleyball team would be the program this time of year, as the Bobcats won their third-straight PIAA Class AA state championship Saturday. Northeastern swept Saegertown 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-12) at Recreation Hall in State College, having little to no trouble getting past the competition.

To say the Bobcats made quick work of the Panthers would be an understatement. The match was over in under an hour, and Saegertown never seriously threatened outside the second game of the day. The Bobcats showed off their depth and dominance throughout the contest, and could be back for more in 2016.

Northeastern brings back a very strong core next season and will try and do what very few programs have ever accomplished - winning four consecutive state championships.
