Poll: YAIAA boys' Athlete of the Week | May 4-May 10

The West York boys’ lacrosse team won a YAIAA championship this past week with a 16-7 win over Susquehannock, on the Warriors’ homefield no less. Prior to their victory in the title game, the Warriors topped Red Lion, 11-9, in the league semifinals round.

West York’s run was, in a sense, a precursor to other YAIAA tournaments that began last week and, in most cases, close this upcoming one.

On the baseball field, Eastern York received another dominant performance from sophomore left-hander Brandon Knarr, who struck out 18 in the Golden Knights’ 2-0 win over Delone Catholic. Knarr entered the contest having thrown three games this season with 16 strikeouts, and he added to his robust punchout total in this one.

In the other YAIAA semifinal, West York came back from a 2-1 deficit to down Spring Grove 3-2. The Bulldogs and Golden Knights will meet on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Spring Grove High School in the YAIAA championship game.

And in the YAIAA track and field championships, there was plenty of action: from a controversial start in the hurdles; to a solid performance from William Penn; to Biglerville’s Danny Stoner setting a new personal-best in the pole vault; to much more.

For the record, the YAIAA boys’ volleyball tournament begins next week. With that being said, a big match took place on Thursday, when Northeastern took care of business against Central York in a battle of defending state champions.

With that, vote away in this week’s Athlete of the Week poll:
