Poll: YAIAA boys' Athlete of the Week | April 27-May 2

There were some thrilling baseball late last week that ultimately decided division championships in the YAIAA.

We’ll start at Eastern York, where the Golden Knights picked up a 1-0 win over York Suburban in a nine-inning affair. The victory granted Eastern York an 11-2 mark in Division III play and an outright title. The heroes of the contest were Brandon Knarr (seven innings, sixteen strikeouts) and Colby Shimmel (game-winning RBI base hit in the ninth).

In another big game Friday, Spring Grove grabbed a huge win of its own, topping Central York 3-2 to clinch an outright title in YAIAA Division I play. The Rockets - who finished the regular season with an 11-3 mark in Division I play - got a big performance from John Sager, who set down the final 17 Panthers’ batters and also delivered the go-ahead base hit.

It was a good year for the Rockets, who had a roster predominantly of underclassmen and first-year head coach Kevin Stiffler, yet still managed to win a third-straight divisional championship.
