What to watch: April 13-18

A glance at this week's games and events to watch involving YAIAA teams:

MONDAY

Eastern York at York Suburban, baseball: The host Trojans have a chance to bounce back from tough losses to Littlestown and Dover, while the Golden Knights can keep pace with the Division III-leading Thunderbolts.

Red Lion at South Western, baseball: The host Mustangs come into the week a half-game behind Spring Grove in Division I. Red Lion isn't much further back. From top to bottom, the division is separated by 1 1/2 games.

South Western at Red Lion, boys' tennis: If last year's division champs are to stay on top, they'll need to pass this test at Red Lion.

TUESDAY

York Suburban at Gettysburg, track and field: Both boys' and girls' teams are in contention for Division II titles.

Dallastown at Central York, boys' volleyball: In a best-of-three game match during the Bobcat Invitational, Dallastown took Central to the limit. This time they meet in a best-of-five setting.

WEDNESDAY

West York at Northeastern, baseball: First place in Division II is on the line.

Red Lion at Spring Grove, baseball: If Red Lion gets past South Western on Monday, this game will be even more important for both teams.

Central York at Dallastown, softball: The Panthers are currently in second place and chasing Dallastown in Division I.

York Suburban at Kennard-Dale, softball: The Rams went into last weekend unbeaten, while Suburban is in contention.

Susquehannock at Dover, softball: Off to a fast start, Dover will look to keep pace with West York atop Division II and fend off the Warriors.

Dallastown at South Western, boys' tennis: The winner takes sole possession of first place in Division I. Neither has a league loss yet.

Susquehannock at York Suburban, boys' tennis: This match will further sift the Division II race.

Red Lion at Central York, boys' tennis: This could be a Division I elimination match.

THURSDAY

Red Lion at York Suburban, boys' lacrosse: Both teams are currently battling for the fourth and final YAIAA tournament spot. By season's end, this also could be crucial for District 3 rating points.

FRIDAY

Herb Schmidt Relays at York Suburban, track and field: Nine YAIAA teams will compete in the annual event, which scores athletes even in individual events as relay pairs.

Littlestown at York Catholic, baseball: A potential matchup of division leaders.

West York at South Western, baseball: Also a potential matchup of division leaders.

Central York at South Western, boys' tennis: Last year, these two played for the division championship near the end of the season. Both are in contention again.

Exeter at Kennard-Dale, girls' lacrosse: A notable District 3 matchup. The Rams are unbeaten and Exeter was 5-3 as of late last week.

SATURDAY

Koller Classic at Central York, boys' volleyball: Like the Bobcat Invitational a few weeks ago at Northeastern, some of the state's top teams will converge at Central York.

Shippensburg Invitational, track and field: Athletes get their first feel of the season for Shippensburg, where they will return next month for the District 3 (and PIAA) championships.
