Dover to rally in support of Maddie Hill, battling cancer

The Dover community will come together for A Night of Hope for Maddie Hill at 6 p.m. today, a rally in support of the Dover teen who is battling leukemia.

The rally will be at 6 p.m. at the Dover High School auditorium.

Hill helped lead the Dover girls' soccer team to its first YAIAA tournament championship as a sophomore in 2012. A year later, her second battle with leukemia left her in the hospital during the soccer season, yet her spirit helped inspire the Eagles to repeat league champions. Her surprise visit to her teammates before their District 3 Class AAA game, when she wasn't able to play, sparked the team to a 6-1 win against Northeastern.

Before the 2014 season, she'd been expected to contribute as a senior but has taken a turn in her battle.

A blood marrow registry drive is being held in Hill's honor in March. "Swab for Maddie" will run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14 at the Dover High School gym.
