Poll: YAIAA football Athlete of the Week | Oct. 27-Nov. 1

It was the final day of the high school football regular season on Friday, and some big games took place in York.

For one, Dallastown went to Red Lion, where a YAIAA Division I championship was on the line in a rivalry that can truly go either way when these two teams get together. Sure enough, it was Dallastown winning, but not before a scare from a Red Lion team that’s been surging during the second half of the season. With that being said, the Wildcats finished the regular season undefeated in divisional play, with a 7-0 record.

Gettysburg has had a strong year as well, although not stronger than West York’s. And while the Warriors gave the Bulldogs all they could handle in the first half Friday night (Gettysburg took a 26-14 lead into halftime), it was West York who finished strong, coming out on top 49-26 and with a YAIAA Division II title in hand.

And of course, there’s Bermudian Springs. This team has simply pounded opponents on a weekly basis, led by a strong ground game and an equally strong defense. Once again, the Eagles counterparts were no match on this Friday night, as the team handled Biglerville 42-7, winning the YAIAA Division I championship in the process.

Sure, there are other players in the mix for our Player of the Week award. But we certainly needed representatives from the respective winners as well. Without further delay, our nominations for Week 10 football Athletes of the Week.
